Rew York, May 20. —A tribute to rthe services rendered to the allies by America In the food situation, delivered In the British house of commons by J. B. Clynes, former British food controller, was made public here by the British bureau of Information. Mr. Clynes, who is one of the leaders of the British labor party, said he wished to thank for the organized workers of Great Britain the American government an<t the American people “for their Imkienße services In respect of food /supplies.” “It ought to be understood,” he said, “in respect of the United States of America that two things were done which were greatly to our advantage. ‘'-One was done by the people of the United States In curtailing their own consumption of many articles, especially cereals; in order that the volume of supply could be greater for the allies and the other was the step taken by the American government on the advice and owing very largely Yo the food controller, Mr. .Hoover, to enable us and the other allied countries to buy our food from America in the American market at the same price as the Americans were paying themselves for supplies for i lheir' own army and navy.”
