Allen of Kansas that the troops of the 35th division had suffered unusually, heavy casualties in comparison with other divisions, General Berry, who returned on the steamer Von Steuben today, said: , “If Governor Allen is criticising the action of the officers of the 35th division he is criticising the plans of .Marshal Foch. Of course, Governor Allen can criticise If he wishes to, but we simply obeyed our orders, and being assigned to attack the Hindenburg line at Bofuois, we attacked it and took it, and in addition advanced 16 kilometers (about 10 2-3 miles) beyond. We learned that this hill was defended by three divisions of the Prussian guards, or at least the better part of three divisions, and while the cost in men was very high, it was not high when you consider what we accomplished.’’
