FIVE CENTS PER MILE PAID Discharged Soldiers to Receive Increase in Travel Pay. The local Red Cross chairman has received the following letter from th® Red Cross department for this division: . March 12, 1919. Civilian Relief Chairmen, American Red Cross, Lake Division: INCREASE IN AMOUNT TRAVEL PAY TO DISCHARGED MEN. “Public law 300, approved February 38, 1919, entitled every enlisted man discharged from the army, navy or marine corps after November 11, 1918, to 5 cents per mile ‘from place of his discharge to his actual bonafide home or residence o original muster into the service at his option.’ “Men discharged hereafter will receive 5* cents per mile to' place of induction into the service. Men already discharged will eventually be reimbursed for the difference between the travel pay they then received and the amount to which they are riow entitled. Advise all dischargea men to delay applying for such reimbursement until specific instructions have been issued by the director of finance as to how this application should be made.” These specific instructions can not be given until an expected opinion of the comptroller of the treasury has been rendered construing the words quoted above. » JAMES L.
