GIVES ARMY MEN PREFERENCE
Secretary Baker Says Full Force Is at Work at Brooklyn Supply Base. Washington. Feb. 14.—Secretary of War Baker announced that a full force of men is at work at the Brooklyn army supply base and “that in employment of workmen preference is given to enlisted men who have been- discharged from the service.” Mr. Baker says inyestlgaton has shown that the union,wage of a carpenter Is $5.50 per day, and that this is paid to soldiers who are so employed. "The war department,” Mr. Baker says, “will continue to carrv out the Baker-Gonipers agreement and pay the prevailing labor rate all construction work.”
