Secretary Glass issues Statement to the American People. Washington, Dec. 20.—The government spent $9,600,000,000 In the fiveand a half months between July 1 and December 16, ami nearly tw<f billion dollars in November. Over a billion has been spent this month up to and including the 16th. These figures were announced by Secretary of the Treasury Glass in a statement “to the American people,” and particularly the “Liberty loan and War Savings Stamps sales organizations.” The proceeds of the last Liberty loan all have been spent, so far as received, says Secretary Glass, and what remains to be paid will be required to meet maturing certificates of indebtedness put <ftit in anticipation of the T oan.
