As a fair illustration of the rabbit pest iu certain portions of New Zealand, and especially in the drier sections of the South island, it is stated that on an Estate lately taken over by the New Zealand government, comprising 12,446 acres of freehold and a pastoral run of 19,250 acres, there were killed or captured about 120,000 rabbits in order to clear up the property so as to make it suitable for the location of returned soldiers. The period of enlistment in the regular naval service is ordinarily four years; at present it is for the duration of the war. The' period of enlistment in the naval reserves is four years, but members are called into active service only in a national emergency, such as this war. In times of peace members are only called to perform three months’ service at sea during four years, in order that they may keep in touch with ship routine, drills, regulations, etc. 6 L - Filing card cabinents, several different styles, carried in stock in The Democrat’s fancy stationery and office supply department.
