IS CHOSEN DISTRICT LEADER
Stewart Learning Will Aid in Increasing the Wheat Yield. Lafayette, June I.—Stewart Learning, Jasper county agricultural agent, one of the livest agents in the state, has been named district leader for the wheat production campaign which is being started now in Indiana. He met with the other district leaders at Purdue university May 31 and helped formulate plans for the big drive to maintain the present acreage of wibeat, which is 25 per cent above normal, and increase the yield as much as possible. It is hoped to attain these ends through the selection of the best wheat fields for use as seed. Field men from the Purdue Extension Department will assist in selecting these fields before they are cut, then efforts will be made to obtain these fields for seed in the county or township in which they are grown. From eight to a dozen fields will be picked in each county. Following this part of the campaign, stress will be laid on early plowing and use of fertilizers containing a large amount of phosphates. - - • Mr. Learning was selected as leader in district No. 4, l:i which are the following count".-s’ "Ja3jer, Newton, Benton, Warren, Fountain, Montgomery, Boone, Clinton, Tippecanoe, White and Carroll.
