The Red Cross drive in Indiana, it is thought, will reach more than $2,500,000. The state’s quota is $2,3.00,000. Fred Merchant, a well known pioneer resident of Brook, died quite suddenly last Saturday. He had been enjoying apparent good health and his sudden death was quite a shock to the entire community. Mrs. Jennie Schilt of Monticello, an accomplished musician and well known to many people in Rensselaer, died a few days ago as t’he resule of an automobile accident, caused from the steering gear of her car breaking while she was ‘returning from a visit in the country. A dispatch from Washington states that more than 200,000 American soldiers have been sent to France during the present month, and more than that number will be sent during June. American troops are now fighting with the allies on all the important battle fronts, Cecil Rafferty of Morocco, one of the Newton county young men included in last week’s draft quota, died in Colorado Wednesday ot tuebrculosis, and was buried at Morocco Sunday. IHe had been ailing for some time and went to Colorado recently hoping to regain his health before being called to the colors.
