The Kniman Farmers Club will hold a county farmers’ institute at the Kniman school next Saturday. February 23. This is the first Institute held in the county in some years and is designed to offer an opportunity for a discussion of the farmers’ program of war production for the coming year. The following program has been arranged: 10:30 ’’The Farm Garden,” Prof. F. C. Gaylord, Purdue university: ’The Control of Corn Insects, County Agent Learning. 1 2 o’clock—Basket dinner. 1: 30 - Profitable Pork Production.” I. F. Mdader; "The Dairy Cow." R. A. Conn: "Seed Corn Demonstration,’’ Kniman school. Music will be furnished by the Kniman Glee club and school. Guy Dooley of the program committee. says, "We expect to have a good old-fashioned institute where our people can discuss the more important farm problems of the day. We believe that we have an interesting program and we invite all 'farmers to bring* in their families j for the day.” Seed Corn Situation Explained The Jasper county branch of the Government Seed Stock committee is lending every effort to make the seed corn testing demonstrations to be held in nearly every school house in the county at 1 o'clock February 22, of benefit to the farmers. The practical farmers who are to make the demonstrations have samples of their seed on test and will be able to speak intelligently on the true conditions. In addition to the meetings mentioned in our last issue, the following speakers have been assigned: Court house- —James Amsler. Barkley—Harry Gifford. Center: Horace Daniels, Center: Joe Pullins, Burnstown; Frank Hensley, Newland; Grant Davisson. Center; Eli Arnold, Rosebud; John Rusk, Randle. Walker —A. P. Rice. KnimanJohn Pettet, Kennedy; Joseph Salrin, Hershman; Louis Grube. Norway No. 6; Isaac Knapp. Walker Center; Chas. Walker, Buckhorn. All meetings at 1 o’clock sharp. The work already done by the committee has been of great help in determining the true condition of the seed. Members feel certain that they will be able to supply our farmers with seed if their wants are determined. District Leader Learning reports that several very promising sources of seed are under consideration.
