Y. M. C. A. CAMPAIGN IS ON
Strenuous Efforts Being Made to Raise County’s Quota. The campaign to raise $7,000 in Jasper county has been in full swing this week and strenuous efforts are being made to raise the quota alloted this county. Teams are hard at work in all the sections of the county, and while some! definite reports have been made to headquarters in this city, most of them have been, so meager and indefinite as to leave the actual standing still in doubt. Word reached here yesterday from the committees in charge of the four north townships that they expected to exceed their allotment by at least SI,OOO. Up to noon yesterday about $1,500 Jiad been raised in Rensselaer and Marion township. Our allotment here was $3,300, and a noble effort is being made to secure this amount, yet many seem to think it rather excessive as compared with other allotments. Judging from the reports turned in one fact stands out . quite prominently, that the people in more moderate circumstances are responding- nobly and if the quota is reached the people of better circumstances must also come (forward. Reports from the south end of the county indicate that good work is being done and when the final resuEit is announced it is felt sure that Carpenter township and Remington will make a splendid showing.
Great efforts are being put forth to enroll sixty boys who will pledge $lO each to- the Ifund, the money to be earned by their own labor. This branch is in charge of Rev. E. W. Strecker and is perhaps working out more favorably than some of the others, as there are a large number of boys who have signified a ttesire to sign the pledge,. The required number has not yet been reached and parents should encourage their boys in the matter without further delay. Following are the various chairmen assigned to districts and the allotment for each: Kankakee. Keener. Wheatfield and Walker, $1,000; H. W. Marble. Carpenter township and Remington, $1,000; Dennis O’Riley. Hanging Grove. $200; R. L. Bussell. Barkley, $500; Fred Markin. Gillam, $200; Elmer Pullin. Milroy, SSO; no chairman named.
