REPUBLICANS CARRY THE CITY

But Little Interest Manifested in Municipal Election. The city election Tuesday passed off quietly and, as usual, the Republicans carried the day. Notwithstanding a general opposition among party men to some candidates, they feared the consequences of scratching and voted a straight ticket. The vote was unusually light and with only a partial ticket but little enthusiasm was aroused among the Democrats. The Democratic candidates were all men of the highest caliber and we have no apology to offer, yet in the absence of any special fight they could not overcome the Republican majority. The vote by wards follows: Mayor—Spitler, R., Ist, 112; 2d, 95; 3d, 61; total, 268. Clerk'—Morlan, R., Ist, 109; 2d, 96; 3d. 59; total, 264.
