DURGAN WINS IN LAFAYETTE

Popular Democrat . Conies Back Stronger Than Ever. George R. Durgan, Democrat, for twelve years mayor of Lafayette and defeated four years ago by sixteen votes, was elected again Tuesday by a majority close to 2,000. His election is regarded as a rebuke to the citizens’ ticket, headed by Mayor Thomas Bauer, whose administration proved far from popular. Mr. Durgan’s previous administrations were satisfactory and popular except to the office-seeking Republicans, and four years ago he was defeated by . a fusion ticket. His come-back was staged with the same opposition, but for four years the people in general have clamored for a return of his kind of ruling, and at the first opportunity voiced their 'opinion in unmistakable terms. • ' ■ Those (politicians who predicted Mr. Dufgan’s political oblivion four years ago can now hunt up some new predictions, for he not only carried the city himself but swept the entire Democratic ticket to victory with him. Mr. Durgan and his ticket carried every ward in the city.
