MURDERER CONFESSES CRIME William Ashby Killed and Robbed Lafayette Taxi Driver. Through the work of Detective William Weinhardt the murderer of Thomas Sense, Lafayette taxi driver, has been apprehended in the person of William W. Ashby, age 33, of Lafayette. The motive of the crime was robbery, and the murderer has confessed and stated that he obtained less than $5. The murder was one of the most brutal ever in this part of the state. Sense was killed by being beaten the head with a hammer, after reaching a lonely spot on the road to Montmorenci. where Ashby had employed Sense to drive him. „ The feeling against Ashby at Lafayette 4s very bitter and he has been taken to the jail at Crawfordsville for safe keeping.
