AUTO DEMOLISHED A BICYCLE
Rider Jumped From the Wheel and Escaped injury. B iHarold Callender, who resides in Barkley township near the Canada school house, had a narrow escape from serious injury Tuesday morning. He had been working in the onion fields at Newland and was going to his work as usual on his bicycle. Before he had gone far he- met an automobile and turned to the right to pass. Another machine appeared in the rear nf Callender at this instant- and bore down on him rapidly. Mr. Callender jumped from the bicycle to save himself and as he did so the auto crashed’into the bicycle and completely demolished it. The car was driven by Mr. Johnson, the stone road conract»r, and the accident was due to the brakes on his car failing to work. However, he was willing to make amends in every way possible and brought Mr. Callender to Rensselaer and replaced the damaged bicycle with a new one.
