ASKS COMMISSION FOR CARS

Sullivan Water Company Says the Shortage Is Manufactured. | That the high price of coal is due solely to the manufactured shortage Of coal cars has bsen conclusively proven- by the Sullivan County Water company, which has been offered mine-run coal at less than sl' a ton, provided it can supply the mine with sufficient cars to enable it to operate six days a week. The water company then filed a petition for cars with the public service commission, and concrete action is expected at once as that body has evidence that the alleged shortage of cars is manufactured to enable manipulation of coal prices. : The commission has been furnished statistics which show that there is enough coal in Sullivan county- alone to.supply the state of Indiana for 200 years and the entire United States for eight years; that the raw value of this coal is about one-half cent a ton, .and that the mines can sell coal at a much lower figure and still profitably if they are supplied with sufficient cars. .
