Additional Expenditures For the Year 1917. $24,000 IS FOR BRIDGES And the Balance Is for the Various Items of County Expenditure for the Ensuing Twelve Months. At the special meeting of the county council the first of the week the follow’ing additional .appropriations for the calendar year 1917 were made: 13 new bridges....s24,ooo Adding machine, clerk’s of 3£>o Expenses court house..... 300 Garage and driveway, jail. ; 800 Penal and benov. instns. .. 200 Elections .... ... . 2,000 Burial of soldiers and soldiers’ widows 500 Poor children, comp. edu. . 300 Adv. payment gravel and stone roads 500 Supplies and maintenance county hospital 2,000 Repair bridges 1,000 Adv. circuit court ditches. . 2,000 Following are the proceedings of the county commissioners at Tuesday’s session, not heretofore published: W. V. Porter was awarded contract for the Carr and Lane stone roads in Newton township, but in the Yeoman road, on which he was also low bidder, bids were rejected and cause continued because of insufficient funds. A. E. Herriman & Co. were awarded contract for the Borntrager road in same towmship. The B. Forsythe, G. B. Robinson, B. W. Ellsworth, John F. Payne, John H. Rusk, Judson L. Adams, William Folger and W. H. Gratner

Stone roads were ordered established, with date of letting fixed at "June 5. In the J. R. Phillips stone road in Hanging Grove township, petitioners ask and are granted leave to withdraw petition. In the Henry Gowland petition for location of highway, reviewers file report showing same as not of public utility. Cause is dismissed and expense account ordered paid. In the M. I. Adams stone road petition viewers are granted until June 5 to file report. G. I. Thomas stone road petition. Cause continued for supplemental report. Jacob A. May petition for stone road. Referred to county surveyor and Emmet Fiddler and Lyman Raymond as viewers, to meet May 12 and report on or before second day of June term. Lewis Fritz stone road. Contractor William Stalbaum allowed balance of $577, balance of attorney fee ordered paid and cause dropped. C. W. Postill stone road. Contractor Oris Salrin allowed balance of $635.50, balance of attorney fee ordered paid and cause dropped. Milt Roth stone road. Contractor Jacob Johnson allow’ed balance of $2,331, balance of attorney fee ordered paid apd cause dropped. W. L. Wood stone rdad. Contractors Moneyhun & Son allowed SBO4 on contract. George M. Myers ditch. Time extended to May 23 for filing report. Bonds ordered issued in the John F. Zimmer and M. E. Bice ditches. V Edward W. Lakin ditch. Mary Alter files remonstrance. Evidence heard and board rules in favor of remonstrator as to benefits assessed, but allots no damages. A, Halleck appointed superintendent of construction. William Folger. ditch. Cause continued for remonstrance and notice to new parties. S. E. Huff ditch. Continued to second day of June term for report. ” ■ Contract for redecorating court house was awarded to Gustava Brand & Co. for $6,250. Other bidders were: Hugh H. Ranje, Indianapolis,. $5,300; William G. Andrews Decorative Co., Clinton, lowa, $6,500; George . Stewart Co,. Chicago, $6,350; M. V. Brown, Rensselaer, $6,500. It will be noted that the lowest bid-, der was not awarded the contract.! the board awarding same to what they considered was the “best bidder,” taking into consideration the ! work. etc. The contractors, who are from Chicago, are expected to commence work next week and to

have same completed on or before July 31. . Notice ordered given for letting contracts for coal for county heating plant, supplies for poor farm and for building a garage and driveway at county jail. ’ Interest on public funds in the various county depositories for the month of April was reported as follows: First National bank, Rensselaer, $143.02: State bank, Rensselaer. $107.11; Trust & Savings bank, Rensselaer. $94.74; State bank. Remington. $81.95; Bank of Wheatfield, $24.73.
