FRENCH VISIT THE HOUSE

Rene Viviani and Marshal J off re Welcomed by Lawmakers at Washington. Washington, May 4.—The French mission was received on the floor of the house with roars of cheers and cries of “Vive la France,” from the floors and galleries. Rene Viviani, head of the-mission, delivered a stirring speech in French, and Marshal Joffre, in response to a great demonstration said, “Thank you,” and then, waving his hand above him, shouted, “Vive la Amerique!” The Frenchmen shook hands with the members, and as Representative Jeanette Rankin passed down the line, M. Viviani, bending low, kissed her hand. Many little girls, some of them daughters of members, were kissed upon the cheeks by Marshal Joffre.
