MR. WOOD MISREPRESENTS US
Tenth District Is Squarely Behind the President. Congressman Will R. Wood of Lafayette, who is doing a good job at misrepresenting the Tenth Indiana district at Washington, is. being taken to task by the leading Republican papers of the district for voting contrary to the desires of hfs constituents. The Lafayette Journal, nearly always to be found with the congressman, says that ninety-f&e per cent of the people of this district are with the President in his proposed war program, and consequently against the stand ' taken „by Representative Wood. The Journal further says that “If he is following his own inclinations he should defer to the wishes of his constituents. If he Is acting upon advices received from his district we can only suggest that he is representing a very small minority and we would advise that he immediately instigate a more accurate poll for his own guidance.”
By a unanimous vote the Hammond Chamber of Commerce, of which Jesse E. Wilson, formerly of this city, is president, wired Congressman Wood and Senators New and Watson to vote for President Wilson’s selective draft bill. However, Mr. Wood is voting his sentiments and not those of his constituents, and is still opposed to the measure.
