GERMAN SOCIETY AT LAFAYETTE PATRIOTIC.
The Lafayette Deutscher Vernine held a patriotic meeting on Sunday, April S, in thei*-- hall which was one of the largest attended ever held by' that popular organization. The hall was decorated with the Stars and Stripes and in the place - where previously hung the 'emperor's picture was a large American flag. The speakers for the occasion were Senator Alva O. Reser and Representative Frank Kimmel, who made splendid addresses. A. A, Memmer, the well-known veteran contractor, was not billed . for a speech, hut he made one anyway/ and it was an appeal for the men of his ancestry to stand by this nation where they had escaped tyranny, where they had come to make their homes arid where they had reared their families under the protection of Stars and Stripes/ The president ms the society, Herman Lodde, called for a rising vote on the patriotic resolutions, and every member ’rose to his feet. “Now,” said the president, “is a good time .to sing ‘America,”’ and it was sung with a will. The resplutions passed pledged the society to do all in their power for the government; they endorsed all the acts of President Wilson this far and guaranteed their loyal and un-
stinted support in the future. The Deutscher Vereine is one of the strongest German societies in the state, and while their loyal action was expected and their fealty was unquestioned, their action Sunday is a most inspiring manifestation. —Tippecanoe County Democrat.
