EDWIN M. LEE IS REMOVED Governor Gives Decision in Case of Member of Service Body Following Hearing—lncompetence Alleged. Indianapolis.—Governor Goodrich removed Edwin M. Lee from the Indiana public service commission, in a finding in which he said that the charge of incompetency made against Lee as a member of the commission had been sustained in the trial of the case before the governor. . Governor Goodrich again called attention informally to the fact that Ift considered'Lee’s political standing only insofar as it was an evidence of the moral qualities of the man. The governor said that if Lee had been a straightout Democrat and competent otherwise, the question of his Democracy would not have been taken into consideration against him in these proceedings. In his forgial finding in the case the governor said the charge that Lee was Incompetent when he was appointed and now was sustained. Before making the announcement the governor overruled motions filed during the hearing by the defense, in which it was contended that the removal of Lee would be a judicial act and not an executive act, and that therefore the govrnor did not have jurisdiction. The governor said no of a man to succeed Lee on the commission would be announced at this time.
Electric Power for Indiana.
Indianapolis.—Development of hy-dro-electric power for many communities in northern Indiana is planned by the Farmers’ and Merchants’ Light and Power company of Mongo, which has been incorporated for a half million dollars. It is proposed to consolidate and enlarge five waterpower plants and dams in the St. Joseph and Fawn rivers in northern Indiana and southern Michigan. John L. Hawk is president of the company.
Damages Are Denied.
Seymour.—After deliberating more than 20 hours, a jury in the suit of John Gossett against Dr. George G. Graessie for $5,000 damages, returned a verdict for the defendant. The plaintiff alleged Doctor Graessie did not properly reset a fractured hip bone.
Celebrate Golden Wedding.
Jeffersonville.—Mr. and Mrs. William Dreyer celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home near Sellersburg. Six sons, two daughters and 17 grandchildren were present. Mr. Dreyer is seventy-four years old and Mrs. Dreyer sixty-seven.

Mice Cause Fire.
Columbus.—-Mice gnawing matches caused a fire in the bath and dressing rooms at the waterworks here. The fire was extinguished by employees. Clothes belonging to Landy H. Tooley, engineer, and some other employees, were burned.
Fort Wayne Water Bad.
Fort Wayne.—The water supply of schools, theaters and other large users was cut off and State Chemist Diggs hurried here to investigate the pollution of’the water. The board of health has recommended that all water be boiled.
Married Fifty-Five Years.
Valparaiso.—Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Zea celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary. Since their marriage, when Mr. Zea was on a furlough during the Civil war, this county has been their home.
Dies of Asphyxiation.
Fort Wayne.—Bert Weston, twentyfour, a train messenger, was found dead in his room of asphyxiation. It is the coroner’s opinion that Weston: committed suicide.
Wounded With Knife.
Newcastle. —Z. A. Dougherty was wounded with a knife by Lawrence Nicholson when the two men became involved in a quarrel at New Lisbon. Nicholson was arrested.
Woman Dies of Shock.
Valparaiso. Mrs. Henry . Blocker died of shock after falling from 'her bed and fracturing a hip she had broken in a fall two weeks ago.
Celebrate Golden Wedding.
Jasper.—Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bretz. Sr., of Bretzville, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their home, five miles east of Huntingburg. Mr. Bretz was born on the farm he now owns and has spent all his life in Dubois county.
Library Association Meets.
Franklin.—The annual meeting of District E of the Indiana Library association will be held in this city February 7. Twenty-nine towns are Included in the district. There are 3,000,000 Jews in the United States. The Oklahoma-Kansas field leads in the production of oil. British soldiers at the front are .writing 5,000,000 letters a week.
