writes From new Mexico

In a recent letter to his brother Thomas- here, W. C. Huston, a former trustee and well known resident of Milroy; township, writes from Grande, New Mexico, interestingly*, of crop conditions there and of himself and family, and we are permitted to copy a part of the letter; which will be of interest to their many old friends in Jasper l county. ’ . Among other things Carey says:. “Have had a very# dry season here; did not raise anything but part of a crop of torn. We lost, ninety - acres, of fall wheat, twentyseven acres of spring wheat,, fifteen .acres Qf oats and twenty acres of millet, but we have about enough to take our stock out to grass. We have fourteen Jiead of cattle, eight head Of horses, four hogs. We put in fifty-five acres dt wheat last fall but it has been very dry and the jack rabbits so bad I am afraid we will lose a part if not all of itagain. This is more of, a stock country than it is for grain, but it may be like Kansas’or Oklahoma —come, to the front after it is farmed a few years. “I just came home yesterday from Trinidad, Colorado, where I had been buying a stock of goods for a man who is putting in a store here. Ray sold him five acres just across the railroad from me, so we will have it handy now for our groceries. > “I will make final proof some time in MarOh, then we may leave the ranch for a few years till we get Helen through school. She is at Mabel’s, going to school thife winter. They .have fine schools at Rock Springs and we would like to have her finish there if it is so we can. “Panr is -working about, fen miles from.'here; he gets $25 per month;, has been there for ten months and will probably stay another year Charles is, on his ranch in Colorado, batching, and is doing well. Glen is married and has two children, a boy and a girl. He still lives at Strausburg - Colorado; is in the hardware and implement business, and is doing well. Ray is staying with us and does farming on both places. • ' “I am having better health lately. Can do lots of choring, milking feeding, looking after the cattle etc. Hoping this finds you well I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.”
