Cuba annually imports about G00,#00,000 feet of lumber. Dr. Conrado Granell of Spain has recently been calling public attention to his experiments in obtaining a potassium compound from sea water. He calls his compounds “marine kainit.” The general store belonging to Cr. L. Schlademan & Sons at Seafield was entered by -’robbers on last Friday night and over SIOO worth of groceries, shoes and hardware taken. They entered by breaking open a window. The stolen goods were carried away in a sled. In announcing the withdrawal of all special subscription rates and an advance in advertising rates effective January 1, the Lafayette Journal states that the paper required to print the Journal in 1917 will cost over $27,000 more than in former years, owing to the tremendous advance in price of print paper. Thirty-seven more saloons will be put out of business in Indianapolis by the upholding of a remonstrance in the fourth ward there this week. Sixteen licenses have already expired and these saloonkeepers will quit business Wednesday. The remaining twen-ty-one will expire within the next several months. Twenty-five saloons were recently closed In the first ward, also by remonstrance.
