ABOUT TIME FOR A CLEAN-UP
Another of Lafayette’s numerous murder cases—all attributable directly to booze —was ended in the circuit court Friday when, after sixteen hours’ deliberation, the jury in the Brock murder trial returned a verdict of murder in the first degree and fixed the penalty at life Imprisonment. Brock, a Kentuckian, shot and killed Edward Manson, a colored pupil of the Lafayette high school last April. Manson brushed, against Brock at a street corner and was shot down without provocation or warning. More murders have occurred in Lafayette in the past quarter of a century from whiskey than in almost, any other town in the country of like population, about a half dozen of which have been in the past six months or year, Tt would seem like it were about time the law-abiding people of the city would rise up in their wrath and put the 80 or more saloons and doggeries out of business there.
