_ Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Spalding of Lowell celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary last week. Mrs. Mary Fairbanks, mother of the Republican vice presidential candidate, died very suddenly Monday evening at the family home in Indianapolis. She was 87 years old. The Ohio utilities commission has ordered an investigation of the car shortage in Ohio, which is said to be responsible for the high price of coal and the near coal famine in the domestic supply. Seven inspectors employed by the commission will investigate the subject and make a report to the utilities commission. His time for the distance was 56 mindtes, 37.65 seconds, establishing a new American record, and is only seven seconds behind the world’s best time. Aitken’s average was 105.86 miles an hour.
