the wife of Tunis Wildrtck. Wildrick and hiq brother-in-law, Grover Potts, found him there Saturday night, decorated his anatomy with numerous cuts and bruises and then had him arrested and fined $1 and costs. Rear Admiral Arthur John Pritchard, IT. S. N., retired, died in Baltimore Wednesday. He was 80 years old. Admiral Pritchard .served in Farragut’s squadron from 1861 to 1863, participating in engagements on the Mississippi river. He was wounded In 1862 and incapacitated for seven months. The bond of Jesse Crump, charged with first degree murder for the alleged slaying of Donald McGregor o n June 21, .1916, was fixed Wednesday by Judge Berry of the Benton circuit court at $3,000. Crump was tried on the charge last week, but the jury disagreed. He has been confined In the Benton county jail since the alleged crime was committed. Newton county will hold a centennial celebration at Kentland next Thursday. The address of the day will be made by Hon. Chase Osborne of Michigan City, and music will be provided by the Michigan City and Kentland bands. A. D. Babcock of Goodland has spent yeaTs collecting an array of Indian relics, and these will be on display at the celebration next Thursday. The U. S, senate Wednesday rejected the nomination of Dixon C. Williams to be postmaster at Chicago. The vote was at the request of Senator Lewis. Mr. Williams waa named April 22 as a compromise candidate after a long dispute, and the members of the Illinois congressional delegation were not satisfied with the selection. It has been stated in official circles that the President will name Mr. Williams as a recess nominee,, in which case he would take charge of tbe office immediately.
