Thomas Gettings of Ockley, Carroll county, was killed and his son-in-law, Charles H. Scheetz, of Colbourn wag badly hurt when the automobile they were driving plunged off a bridge near Archerville last Friday afternoon. The men were returning from Lafayette and in attempting to pass a buggy did not notice the bridge. The dead man was about 54 years of age and leaves a wife and four children. Owing to the high cost of print paper and other itemg entering into the cost of producing a newspaper, the Winamac Democrat-Jour-nal has announced that hereafter the cash-in-advance system will he adopted. Upon the expiration of a subscription the name will be dropped from the list unless a renewal is received, accompanied by cash. Xewspepers are up against it now and no one should object to a raise in price or paying the paper when due. The Benton Review states that Emory Meader, now of that place, who recently sued r.layor Bell of Indianapolis for $15,000 damages for injuries alleged to have been received when struck some time ago by Bell’s touring car, has compromised the case, Bell paying him $1,200. Meader’s leg was badly broken in the collision between his motorcycle and the touring car, but he has now recovered sufficiently to return to his duties in Indianapolis as wireman for the Central Union Telephone company. 1
