Foresters Defeated by College Team in Close Game.

In one of the fastest and closest games ever played on the college grounds the Foresters of Rensselaer went down to defeat before the strong St. Xavier team Sunday by the score of 3-2, The teams were well matched and as a consequence the game was a thriller from beginning to end. The interest of both spectators and players was intense throughout and not until the last man was down in the ninth was there any surety of victory for

either side. By consistent good playing, however, the St. Xavier boys proved the better team and held *be visitors down after gaining the lead in the fourth inning. Both pitchers were in good form and for the most part the game was a pitchers’ battle. Brunswick for St. Xavier’s~pitched his usual good game, keeping the Foresters’ hits well scattered and striking out 11 men. Backed up by excellent support on the part ,of his team-mates, he was easily master of his opponents at all stages of the game. Feldhaus for the Foresters also pitched good ball. In the fourth, however, he weakened, allowing the St. Xavier boys to bunch hits and score their three runs. The Foresters scored one run in the fourth and one in the sixth on timely hits by Eigelsbach. The feature of the game was Wolf’s beautiful low running catch in left.

Another good game is expected next Sunday w'hen the Foresters meet the St. Xavier team for a second time on the college diamond.
