Gary Observes Decennial of City’s Founding Today.

Gary, Ind., April 17.—Tomorrow will be Gary’s tenth anniversary. The unloading of a car of cinders April 18, 1906, under the supervision of former Mayor R. F. Knotts of Hammond, then the United States Steel Corporation’s property agent, and his brother, Thomas E. Knotts, later, mayor of Gary, marked the beginning of operations here. The end of the IG-th year finds Gary with a population of 45,000, and new -construction under way that exceeds in magnitude the original project.
