True Patriotism Scorns to Accept Peace Without Honor

By Rev Dr. WILLIAM CARTER, New York City

ONE class of pacifists believe in peace secured through preparedness to maintain it—the best way that peace can be kept. The others, those who would have peace at any price, have not the larger vision of those who look to liberty, equality, fraternity and justice. Theirs is not the same brand of patriotism that, flows in the red blood of tke really patriotic. They have not enough ginger in their systems or en °ugh sand in then gizzards. They are aenemic; their backbones are weak. THEY STRUT IN THEIR WALK AND CROW IN THEIR TALK, FOR AT HEART THEY ARE CHICKEN HEARTED. I am glad that our president has changed his mind about preparedness. I am glad that he no longer talks of being “too proud to fight,” for pride goetli before a fall. •6 *4 « IN HIS NEW ATTITUDE HE HAS ALL OF THE MANHOOD OF AMERICA BEHIND HIM, AN AMERICA THAT IS VIRILE AND NOT VERBOSE, AN AMERICA THAT WILL TALK WITH THE SWORD AND NOT WITH THE PEN.
