FAIR OAKS Aunt Hannah Culp hag been very much under the weather the past yeek or ten days. Yes, we have plenty of cloudy, damp weather this week and roads are in a terrible condition. Garden making is being started in our town this week and some farmers begun sowing oats this week. Jess Garfio'tt went back down to the Sternburg dredge Monday to work, but Mrs. Garriott will remain until she is well. Mrs. Joe Clous and two little chil-

dren /of Shelby, lowa, after a week or ten days’ visit here with home folks, returned home the latter part of this week. M ~ t ~ ; Abe Bringle, the mail carrier on route 1, sold one of his horses this week to Bark Crawford and is now looking for another one to put on his mail wagon. Jess Garriott and wife, who had been working on the Sternburg dredge, came home Friday. She is just recovering from a severe sick spell; the recovery is slow. M. E. District Superintendent McKensie, with Rev. Postill, was here Sunday for the quarterly conference. The former delivered a very interesting sermon, after which they conducted the sacramental services. The wheat and rye fields are beginning to liven up these days. Generally they don't look so strong as they.did last spring at the opening. There is not nearly as much in this section of the country as there was last year. Mrs. Cottingham went over to Momence about ten days ago to keep house and take care of her son William’s children fdr him while his wife spent last week visiting relatives near Wheatfield and Rensselaer. Mrs. B. T. Clevinger, who has been so seriously sick for several weeks, is, we are glad to say, recovering now, although slowly. Her faithful husband has been constantly at her bedside, both day and night, and is very much fatigued, but now is very much encouraged. While it has been quite damp and cool, spring signs are appearing, and the robin, the blue bird, the pea wee, the killdeer (as it is called), the thunderpumper, the old blue pond crane, the sandhill crane, wild ducks and geese are all in evidence, and the frogs in the roadside ditches with their ter-rar-ar tells us it is spring. The pencil pusher of Fair Oaks has been writing letters to the many readers of The Democrat, who are scattered all over the United States, for about 13 or 14 years, but has never had many answers. Now we would be very glad to hear from some of our old friends and others that would care to write. We are to have a birthday in a few days and a few lines would be very much appreciated. Remember the day in '6l when fired on Fort Sumpter. Pills Best for Liver Because they contain the best liver medicines, no matter how bitter or nauseating for the sweet coating hides the taste. PARR S. T. Comer & Son shipped a car of stock from Parr Monday. Representative Wood of Parr held I hie annual invoice sale last Friday, 1 with Col. W. A. McCurtain as cryer. The weather continues to be cold and disagreeable, and the wind shaves almost like a knife at this writing. Abe Myres has the auto fever, I and he has got it so badly if he isn’t careful he will go to town and drive home a Ford. James V. Brusnahan has gone to Chicago Heights to work, but the writer was not informed as to what kind of work he is going to do. The school children haulers are ’ earning their’ money’s worth now. 1 The roads are such that they are compelled to put off four horses or get hung up in the mud. ‘l** ■ " i - The Rensselaer Dredging company [ is moving right along with their job. ; If they keep it up at the lick they ‘ are going they will be ready for another job by the last of May. Robert M. Hurley, the blacksmith, and Otis Sheffer, the carpenter, and his wife took dinner with John W. Baker of Barkley tp. Sunday. They found the roads very bad; so bad that they got stuck in the mud. When you stick those war horses you are going some. A protracted effort will commence at the Parr school house Tuesday night. Everybody is invited. The services will be conducted by the Baptist minister, Rev. Beard, of Rensselaer, a good and pleasant talker and once you hear him you, will want to hear him again. So come out to the meeting.

A Wonderful Bargain. You will be sure to admit that this is a wonderful bargain. You will wonder how it is possible to secure such splendid sweepers to sell at such a low price. It is merely another demonstration to give our patrons the advantage of every special purchase we make, having secured 200 of these sweepers from one of the largest manufacturers in the country at an exceedingly low price as a big special sale feature offering, $3.00 won’t buy a better sweeper. Made of steel; light in weight, but very strong—a sanitary sweeper which harbors no germs. bar superior in every way to the old fashioned wooden sweeper with its germ collecting attributes. The HYGENO sweepers are handsome, having beautiful mahogany baked enamel finish and nickle trinimings. - Don’t fail to see them on display in our window. Judging from the intense interest being manifested in the display and the comments on the very low price of only 98 cents, there will be a big crowd here sure. Remember only 200 of these Sweepers in this sale and if you appreciate a big bargain and want to obtain your sweeper it is essential that you be here promptly at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon. Positively none sold before this time. W. J. Wright Ir,diana
