Governor Will Appoint Successor to Senator Shiveiy.

The death of Senator Shively, whose term of office would not have j expired until 15*21, makes necessary the election of two United States senators from Indiana in November.! The nomination will be made for the] vacancy at the coming state convey- ’ tion. Governor Ralston will appoint a successor to Senator Shively to serveuntil after the November election, and it is the opinion of the Indianapolis papers that the appoint-f ment will be tendered Thomas Taggart. Republican State Chairman | Hays and Janies Watson are candidates for the nomination on the Re- 1 publican side, it is said. Watson.; who was a candidate against New and Robinson in the recent primary, had announced that he would earry the matter of his nomination at the primary before the state convention, as New did not receive a sufficient number of votes to secure the nomination at such primary, it being required that the successful candidate receive a majority over all, others wise the nomination would go before the state convention.
