Newton County Progressives in Line.
On Friday afternoon the central committee and other members of the Progressive party met at the Bijou theater and listened to the instruction concerning the new primary law from Charles Newton of Monticello, who represented District Chairman Coffin. It was decided unanimously to place a county ticket in the field and it will be on record and complete by Saturday. There will be two if not three candidates for the congressional nomination. Brown of White county and Bowers of Lake will contest for the place, and there may be another announcement before Saturday. “Any desertions,” we asked a member from out of town. “One in our neighborhood is all I can find. The facts are they trimmed us down to our fighting strength the last election and now we hold the balance of power. Why not stick?” The following delegates were
elected to attend the (State convention: Will H. Ade of Kentland, W. S. Cunningham of Brook and M. E. Graves and Charles Martin of Morocco, subject to the electors vote at the primaries. The following central committeemen were appointed: Jefferson, Thomas H. Dickson; Grant, F. D. Gilman; Washington, Wm. Whaley; Iroquois, T. L. Davies; Jackson, John W. Brown; Beaver, M. E. Graves; Lake, Charles Hanson; McClellan, Roy Templeton.—Brook Reporter.
