Old Time London Bank Clerks.
Formerly the dress of the ordinary, bank clerk wus knee breeches, silk stockings, shoes with silver buckles, tall cout and often a whlto tie. Messrs. CouttS drew the lino nt the clean shave and a frock coat. Hirsute ornaments were regulated by strict orders from headquarters, beards or the mustache not being tolerated for many years. Nearly every one walked to and from business at that time, three, four or five miles being no uncommon distance.
