The rape case from county, brought here on change of venue, was compromised Wednesday after all preparations had been made to try the case. The prosecuting witness was Miss Nellie Dusenberry of Fairbury, 111., and the defendant Vernon Hagen, of near Morocco. The alleged crime was committed near Morocco last fall, and as a result the girl, who was only about 17 year.,’ cf age, gave birth to a child in July last through a Caesarean operation. In addition to the charge of rape, paternity proceedings had also been brought against young Hagen. The case was compromised by the defendant paying plaintiff sr,soo' it is understood.
Circuit Court Docket. State*vs. Harry Eger; jury trial, verdict of guilty of assault and battery, fine of SIOO and 30 days in jail, sentence not yet passed by the court. State vs. Vernon Hagen, charged with rape; dismissed on motion of prosecutor. State vs. Joseph Thomas, charged with provoke by Louis Wicker; plea of guilty and fine of $5 and costs. State vs. Henry Poisel, charged w ith assault and battery on the person of William H. Youngs of Gillam tp.; plea of guilty entered and a fine of $5 assessed. A. C. Pancoast ditch; cause continued. . The jury was excused Wednesday until yesterday, when the Lake county damage case of Nomensen vs. Whitaker et al, was set for trial. The Trial Calander.
