Don’t forget that next Wednesday, May 26, is the date for holding the railroad subsidy election in Newton township,—Advt. Clerk Perkins had a box of cigars and a large box of chocolates on his desk yesterday, and set ’em up to all comers in honor of his advent to the ranks of Benedicts again.
In the list of new suits filed as published in Wednesday’s Democrat, No. 8434, should have read “John T. Martin vs. Jennie M. Linton,’’ instead of vs. Jennie T. Martin. New suits filed: No. 8436. Forga A. Cambliu vs. Wm. P. Archibald et al; transcript from Newton circuit court. No. 8437. David James vs. Panhandle Ry.; transcript from Newton circuit court. The Lincoln tp., Newton county quartette of alleged chicken thieves confined in jail here, were taken to Kentland Tuesday and arraigned in court. They will be tried the last week of the present term there, the Kentland Enterprise says: In default of bond they were all returned to jail here by the Newton county sheriff. Miss Ethel Perkins, who has so satisfactorilly filled the position of deputy clerk in her father’s office for the past couple of years, left yesterday for Terre Haute, where she will teach in the Terre Haute Normal for the summer term of twelve weeks. Joe Reeve will take her place for the present, but we understand Miss Perkins will probably resume her duties again as deputy in September.
O. L. Brown, promotor of the socalled Lafayette and Northwestern Railroad Co., has begun suit in White county to have the charter of the Indiana Northwestern Traction Co., (the old Purtelle paper road) annulled. The complaint charges that the said I. N. T. Co., has not complied with the law regarding such corporations, and therefore it has no right to exist. W. H. Parkison of Rensselaer, is attorney for Brown in thel proceedings.
