Word comes from Monroe, Mich., of the birth on May 10 of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Elder, formerly of Rensselaer.

Mrs. Ike Wiltshire left yesterday ‘or Town Creek, Ala., where she will probably spend most of the summer with relatives. Her mother is in poor health and a brother recently underwent an operation. She Will remain with them indefinitely and assist in caring for them.
The weather here this week has been cold and disagreeable, but no frost .is reported notwithstanding the mercury has got down dangerously near the frost mark. Snow has fallen in parts of Michigan and Nebraska, and we should be thankful that we escaped both frost and snow.
Pocahontas Council, No. 336, will be host on next Wednesday, May 26, at a district meeting comprising the three councils of Logansport, Fowler and Kentland, at which the head officers of the state will be, in attendance, ft The evening a large class of candidates will be given the work by the Kentland degree team.
P. T. Hordeman sent in to B. F. b endig Monday a small hoopsnake which had been killed in Walker tp. The reptile was perhaps 16 inches long and about as large around as one’s finger, it had a horned tail, and it is said that this' species of snake strikes its victim with its horned tail, which is poisonous, instead of with thq fangs like other species.
