Burning of Traction Barn in Lafayette Costs $75,000.
Lafayette, Ind., May 20. Thirteen street cars, a snow sweeper, a sand car and the SIO,OOO electric brake test car “Louise” were destroyed by tire here today when the storage barn of the Fort Wayne & Northern Indiana Traction Company at Twenty-sixth and Kossuth streets burned to the ground. The loss is estimated at $75,000' and is partially covered by insurance. It is the opinion of Superintendent Jack Abbott of the company that the blaze originated from the carelessness of boys who visited the building. The “Louise” was used by officials when making inspection trips. It had a complete outfit for the entertainment of guests, the trimmings* and furnishings being of solid mahogany. It was considered one of the most beautiful private cars in the service of any interurban line.
