PRISONER IS SPIRITED AWAY.

Youth Held in Connection With Killing of Policeman Rushed to Logansport.

Delphi, Ind., May 20. —-Lawrence Lawson, held in connection with the shooting of Night Watchman August Scallon in a drunken raid of Lafayette youths here Saturday night, was taken secretly from Delphi to rhe Logansport jail today. He was taken by Sheriff Popejoy in an automobile, and they got a long start before the move was discovere > The action was taken through fear of the sentiment against the prisoner here, which has increased since the funeral of' Scallon this morning. A large crowd attended the funeral, and . the business houses of the city were closed. It is known here that Lawson has made a statement to the prosecuting attorney, and it is th*, general belief that he implicated his brother, , Charles F. Lawson, who still is at large. The belief was strengthened when the city council this evening appropriated S2OO reward for the capture of Charles Lawson. The county council has been called to meet June 4 to make an appropriation for a like purpose.
