Kids and Goats of Today.

There are stiH folks so old-fash-ioned as to remind us now and then that a kid is a young goat. But if language is acknowledged the right of growth, is it not high time that :he general modern meaning of ’’kid’* were given some standing? It is called colloquial, but its use is universal. It is called slang, but 1. ft. were nothing more it would have been dead long it is growing. -Staid elders-are using the word which they formerly scorned. The number of times “kid” is pronounced for application ,to a young human .is about 10,000 to every single time it is used to designate a young goat. But the justification for “kid’’ is not in usage alone. Is not a child everybody's goal? Hasn’t everybody a license to speak peremptorily to a “kid"? Don’t the “kids” run all the errands? Are they not assigned to sleep .on the floor when company comes to lodge? Who says a “kid” is not a goat ?
