Helped Defeat Subsidy In Gilboa Tp., Says Benton Review.

Benton Review: Rensselaer and Marion township, Jasper county, will probably have a chance to vote a subsidy to another proposed inter-. urban, when the petition that is being circulated asking that an election be called to vote a tax to aid in the construction of the Lafayette & Northwestern Railroad, that has been surveyed from Lafayette to Kankakee, is presented to the county commissioners. They are getting used to voting subsidies over in Jasper. O. L. Brown, who is the chief promotor of the railroad, helped defeat the subsidy election held in Gilboa township last spring, when the Indiana & Northwestern, a competitor, was asking a tax of ]i/ 2 per cent of the farmers of Gilboa.
