Charleston is the county seat of Mississippi county, Mossouri, and is situated in the heart of the finest farming country in the world. Charleston has three railroad connections and ten trains daily. Mississippi county comprises 265,000 acres of fine black alluvial soil which grows in abundance corn, wheat, alfalfa, clover hay and in fact all kinds of farm products. It is a city of beautiful homes, churches (all denominations) and is not surpassed by any city of like size in the state for general neatness and an attractive appearance. It has a population of 4,500; has great thrift and enterprise. Three newspapers, three banks, large flouring mills and wooden ware enterprises. The farm products marketed in Charleston reach very large proportions and the general merchantile business would be a credit to any city twice its size. The population is growing steadily and substantially. Most of the inhabitants own their own homes. They have excellent schools. There are no saloons. They have the finest water.
