An Echo of the Chalmers Bank Robbery.
Frank Torlcelli, 24 years old, charged with the murder of Fred Cromwell, a policeman at Linton, Ind., was arrested at Los Angeles, Cali., last Thursday. He was surprised in a bungalow in the outskirts of the city while shaving. He attempted to throw a bottle of nitroglycerin at the detectives, and, failing, rushed at them with a razor, but. was knocked senseless and handcuffed. More than SI,OOO was found in his pockets. He was on his way to the San Francisco exposition, he said. Torlcelli, who is an Italian, is said to have one of the gang who robbed the Chalmers bank of some $3,000 recently. Cromwell, whom he is charged with having* killed, surprised Torioelli and another party who were robbing a clothing store at Linton. A reward of SI,OOO was offered for the slayer of Chomwell* and the business men raised a fund of SSOO for Chomwell’s widow and two children.
