NEWTON COUNTY MERCHANTS

Planning for a County-Wide (1 P. M.. Closing During Summer. Newton county merchants are getting together on a proposition to close their business places at 6 p. m.f during the summer, except on Wednesday and Saturday nlghts.«The Kentland merchants have already signed an agreement ,to this effect, and it is expected the merchants of other towns in the county will be favorable to the proposition. The 6 p. m., closing feature has been tried out there during the winter and has proven very satisfactory. Many of the Rensselaer merchants are safd to favor a continuance of the early closing here, and it is probable that they wip get together on the proposition, only keeping open oh Wednesday arid Saturday nights, and having the band concerts changed to Wednesday instead of Thursday nights.
