AETNA POWDER PLANT COMING.

Pleasing News to Lake County, But Distressing to Northern Jasper. It is reported that the Aetna Powder Company, which sooner or later would have to cease operations because of its nearness to Gary, is to re&lly build a plant In a lonely, part of Jasper county, along the Kanka kee river; but the mills at Aetna are to be turned into a hjjge chemical works employing several hundred men.

More than a third of a century ago the Aetna company, after a brief stay at Schererville, located in the lonely marsh region tfiat now comprises the Gary district. It was thought at that time one hundred years would not settle the lonely territory, which was twenty miles from the nearest city. But the advent of Gary in 1906 changed this theory and ever since the powder mills have been fearfully regarded. It is pleasing news to hear that

the Aetna company Is to continue as one of Lake county’s industrial units. The Chicago concern was one of the fifst to locate here and it is, indeed, pleasant to hear that it is to continue to remain with us.—Lake County Times.
