An Echo of the I. N. W. Traction Co., Late of Jasper County, Deceased.
Mrs. H. J. Wilson, wife of Engineer Wilson of the apparently deceased I. N. W. Traction Co., was here Monday and Tuesday and shipped that part of the household effects, claimed by her as her indivld-* ual property, and attached some time ago by creditors of Mr. Wilson and the traction company. She shipped the goods to her old home at Christiana, Pa., and left Tuesday for that place. Mrs. Wilson bid off and paid for several pieces of the remainder of the furniture, which was sold on order of Squire fl-win Monday. The total receipts of the sale was $245, and after deducting the costs, etc., it left $139. There were two preferred claims, as noted in a recent issue of The Democrat, one of these for $125 being to a Chicago express company that had packed and loaded the goods on car when they were shipped to Rensselaer several months ago. The other was? for some $lB or S2O. These will be paid practically in full, but the Remington parties, who start, ed the proceedings, and also the Rensselaer creditors, will get nothing at all. The claims filed against the attached furniture included automobile and board bills both at Remington and Rensselaer, and it would seem now that thqr will all lose the amounts.
Mrs. Wilson made a very good impression both in Rensselaer and Remington during her stay at both places, and she may possibly later pay the board bills if she is able to do so. It is probable that Wilson would have paid all of these bills had not the other members of the company apparently laid down on the proposition and refused to supply him with any more money. Apparently he went ahead after the others had quit and thought he could do something to revive the proposition, but was unable to do so. He is a man of considerable ability, but his finances seem to be in about the same condition as those of our old friend 'Gene Purtelle.
It would seem that some time the "suckers” would all get caught out of the streams of Rensselaer and Jasper county, but it really looks as though a number of them rathei like to get caught, and enjoy taking the cork under at every opportunity. All that is needed is a change in the bait, and many bite whether any change is made or not.
