Would Abolish Grand Jury

Adherents of the. democratic machine are now calling for the abolishment* of the grand jury system of Indiana. The machine was stung to intense bitterness by the report of the Marion county grand jury w hich brought into-daylight the acts of machine democrats during the last legislature. There is now talk that a movement may be started to have the next state legislature do away with the grand jury, probably by throwing its duties into the hands of the prosecutor. The constitution of Indiana provides that: ‘ The general assembly may modify or abolish the grand jury system.” However, there is no way for the general assembly to interfere with the existence or action of the federal' grand jury.
