JOHN G. CULP Democratic Candidate for Sheriff of Jasper County
OUR COUNTY CANDIDATES
(Continued from page one.)
Sayers, and he will not only (receive the united support of his own party but the votes of many from the opposing parties who recognize his sterling qualities, his pleasing and gentlemanly bearing and his general fitness for this office. COUNTY TREASURER For county treasurer we have William I. Hoover, one of the best known men in Jasper county. Mr. Hoover has served two 2-year terms as coun-1 ty sheriff and made so popular an officer that his friends presented his name before the county convention for treasurer, and he was nominated by a good majority. He was elected sheriff two' years ago by a plurality iof 59 7. His opponents will tell you ! that he ought not b|d elected treasurer because he has had two terms as sheriff. But remember that the sheriff’s office is for but —same as the treasurer—and that the auditor, clerk, recorder, etc., are four year terms, without any especial reason, and they think all these 4-year officials are entitled to another term—if he happens to be a republican. Also, that his republican opponent has already served—or will on Jan. i next —six years in office as trustee of Carpenter tp., and that Mr. Hoover, if elected, will not take charge of the treasurer’s of-
SAMPLE BALLOT Genuine County Ballot is on white paper.
Gee until Jan. 1, 1916, while his term as sheriff ends Jan. 1 next. Don't let this “argument” influence you to vote against Mr. Hoover next Tuesday. COUNTY SHERIFF Next we have John G. Culp ot Barkley tp., for county sheriff. Mr. Culp is one of the strongest men we have on our ticket—intelligent, clean, honest in every particular—a man who will conduct the business of the office with credit to himself and to Jasper county. No one ever heard John G. Culp say an ill word of anyone, and while he has never before took much of a part in politics, the Culps are all old, well known and highly respected citizens of Jasper county. John was born and raised in Barkley tp., and there are no better men in the county than he. He will receive the votes of scores of men from the opposing parties and should receive every vote of his own party on November 3d. COUNTY CORONER For coroner we have Dr. A. P. lainier of Remington. The coroner’s office in Jasper county is not a very renumerative one, yet we should have such officer, and Dr. Rainier is such a gentleman in every way qualified to fill the office with honor and dignity. He is a man well thought 6f in Remington and vicinity where he is best known, he having been a practicing physician of that place

for several years, and is honored and respected by all who know him.
OOUNTY SURVEYOR The office of county surveyor la Jasper county is an important one, and in L. A. Bostwiek the democrats have perhaps by tar the best qualified man for this office that there la in the entire county. Mr. BostwlclC is not a politician, but when it comes to efficient and practical knowledge of civil engineering he is right at home, having had many years of that actual experience which especially qualifies one for such a position beside the “book learnin’ ” that one gets in taking this course in our best educational institutions. Mr. Bostwiek is best known in Rensselaer, where he will receive a large vote, not only from democrats but from members of the opposing parties who know the importance of having an experienced surveyor in this office. COUNTY ASSESSOR 1 Joseph E. Thomas of Newton tp., is our candidate for county assessor. ‘ Joe’’ has served his township as assessor there and has made a careful and efficient officer. His experience as such will be of benefit to him in the higher office of county assessor, and he will get many republican votes among his neighbors and friends In this section of the county, where he is best known.
( OUNTY COMMISSIONERS For county commissioners we havq Frank W. Fisher in the north end of the county, District No. 1, and James A. Washburn of Remington for District No. 3. Both are very competent men to till this most important office—more important perhaps to the taxpayers than any other office in the county and too often not given the consideration by the voters that it should be. Both gentlemen are well educated and eudowed with excellent business judgment, which makes them especially qualified to fill the office with honor and credit both to themselves and the county, and the taxpayers can be assured that the affairs of the county will be intelligently and economically administered with Frank Fisher and “Jim” Washburn on the board of commissioners. COUNTY COUNCIL Now, we have not the time nor space to make an extended mention of the members of the county council whose names appear on the democratic ticket; All are men of good judgment and worthy of your support. For county councilmen-at-large. Frank Schroer of Union, Joseph Nagel of Marion towniahp, and GeOrge Besse of Remington, with Emory Garrjott in District No. 1, composed of Kankakee. Keener, Union and Wheatfleld townships; John F. Ryan in District No. 2, composed of Barkley, Uillani, Hanging Grove and Walker townships; James H. Carr for District No. 2, composed of Marion and Newton townships, and Charles W. Hamer for District No. t, composed of Carpenter, Jordan and Milroy. Wlhile the entire county votes on county commissioner and county councilmen-at-large, district councilinen are only voted for by districts, and the voters iu t'he first councilmanlc district do not vote the district candidates of any other district, etc. In Saturday’s Issue we will givo the names of the democratic candidates for township trustee and also all the candidates on each of the township tickets, by townships.
