What Monticello People Think of Their Last Week’s Carnival.
Over eighty citizens and business men of Monticello have published a notice over their signatures in the Journal of that city, in which they condemn the gambling booths operated in connection with the street carnival held there last week, and say: “We furthermore go on record expressing our purpose to join in an injunction against the repetition of such a carnival and in impeachment proceedings against our officers in case of a recurrence of such a condition.”
And yet the William Cause carnibal features are about the cleanest or were in Rensselaer, at least, that we have ever seen. But carnivals are practically all alike, and are a stench in the nostrils of decent citizenship. Mr. Gause* the proprietor of the carnival Shows, was arrested for permiting gambling in the booths connected with his carnival, and the case was set for trial in Monticello yesterday.
