BOARD GRANTS FRANCHISE.

Benton County Commissioners Boost New Electric Line. Fowler, Ind., October 6.—The Benton county commissioners Mon-

day, on the final hearing of the franchise for the Lafayette & Northwestern Railroad Company, which is to operate an electric line from Lafayette to Kankakee where connection will be made with the Chicago line, granted the franchise. There was no opposition. Attorney O. [,. Brown, for the new lompany, stated that the survey or. the proposed line is to begin this week and that the grading contract also will be let this week. The survey will take in Fowler. which will necessitate the building of about ten mik-s more of road, should it be decided advisable to build the branch line. The terms of tne franchise call for that part of the road from Lafayette as far as Rensselaer to be in operation by January 1, 1916. Property owners along the line are to have the advantage of a large block of the preferred stock. Chicago capitalists, the attorney states, will take up the remainder of the issue.
