Yesterday’s markets: Corn, 66c; oats, 40c; wheat, 95c; rye, 75c. The prices one year ago were: Corn, 66c; oats, 26c; wheat, 81c; rye, 55c. O. K. Rainier spent one day the first of the week at the Kankakee fishing, with his (brother, Smith Rainer of Brookston, who visited him here. Mrs. Robert Shook of Mitchell, S. Dak., who has been visiting here with her parents* Mr. and Mrs. Ctharles Pullins of Barkley tp., returned home this week accompanied by Frank Greenlee, who will work for Mr. Shook. The babe born to Air, and Mrs. Estel George of Barkley tp., Friday, died shortly after birth and was buried at 4 o’clock the same afternoon, in the Dunkard cemetery. An operation was performed a few days ago by Drs. Gwin, English and Kresler on the 12-year-old son of Wash Lowman of Hanging Grove tp., who cut his knee a few weeks ago with a corn knife and serious' infection had set in. It is possible that the boy will be left with a stiff knee.
Walter Kurrie, who has been spending some time in Wisconsin, went to his old home at Paoli, Wednesday after a visit here with his brother. Pres. H. R. K irrie of the Monon, and family. From thej-e he will go to his home in Philadelphia, but expects to spend the winter in Florida. Cannot something be done to eliminate the terrible odors arising from the new catch-basins put in on west Washington street? It was hoped that this stench would be a thing of the past when the new catch-basins were put in, but as a matter of fact it is worse than ever. The city health board should look into this matter.
Former postmaster W. E. Peck of Remington, who has just moved to Chautauqua county, N. /., where he recently purchased a dairy farm, writes The Democrat to change the address of his paper to Ashville, N. Y., R-R-65. He adds: “One can’t get too far from home to not find people one knows about. The people here all know John M, Knapp of Rensselaer.” Mr. Knapp's old home was in that vicinity. ' Oils and Tires.
